The one meal everyone in my family seems to like is breakfast. It is also the meal that I rarely have adequate time to mess with. Mornings are crazy enough already. Do you really want to add popping bacon grease to it?
Breakfast for Dinner for Kids
Breakfast-for-dinner is our answer. Since apples are literally falling off the trees this time of year, we decided to incorporate them into our theme this month while celebrating John Chapman, AKA Johnny Appleseed. Born September 26, 1774, he was a conservationist and a great dude who spread the growth of apple trees across the Midwest.

Activities
Decorated Lunch Bags, Fancy Pancake Shapes and An-Apple-a-Day Banners
Crafters: Have kids make butterfly lunch bags with apple stamps (see photo above). Slice apple in half, paint cut side, and gently press onto paper. Let dry for a few minutes and add body, head and colorful spots.
Artists: Have kids put pancake mix in a squirt bottle and make different designs in the pancake pan. Let the design cook for 30-45 seconds, then fill in. Flip when ready. Be sure to closely supervise this activity. You can use our Designer Pancake Video to demonstrate and spark some ideas.
Bright Idea: Make plain pancakes first and hold them in the oven or toaster oven on warm heat. Then, make one 'designer pancake' as above for every member of the family.
Writers: Make An-Apple-a-Day banners for the kitchen or dining room. List the benefits of eating apples on construction paper or paper you have recycled. During dinner, flip over the banners and see who can name the most apple ideas — without peeking.
Cooks: Depending on their skill level, pick an activity that is safe and fun for kids.
