Animal Theme Dinner
A wild adventure with wildlife — explore animals and their habitats.

This Animal-Themed Dinner is the perfect way to engage your children in learning about animals and their habitats while enjoying a fun and interactive meal together. Over the course of the week, you'll explore different animals, the food they eat, and the environments they live in. You can break this up into a multi-day process or host it all in one fun-filled evening. This is a great way to bond with your family, teach your kids about the animal kingdom, and enjoy some creative activities together.
Take breaks when needed according to the attention span of your children and your own. When this endeavor becomes a chore, the positive aspects of learning are lost. The point is to bond and learn surprising things from, and with, your family.

Your Week of Wonder
The Five-Day Itinerary
Monday
Planning & Animal Exploration
- Discuss the different animals your children love and explore what types of animals they want to learn more about. Let them pick favorites like lions, elephants, monkeys, and fish. Each day, focus on a different habitat: jungle, ocean, savanna, etc.
- Activity: Have the kids draw their favorite animals and where they think those animals live. Use animal figurines or printouts to help them visualize these habitats.
- Dinner: While the kids work on their drawings, prepare the Bear Paw Sandwiches, Fish Fingers, and Zoo Vegetables. Let the kids help shape the sandwiches with the cookie cutter.
Tuesday
Matching Game & Menu Prep
- Using the animal figurines or printouts, teach your kids how to match animals to their correct habitats and foods. For example, match a fish with the ocean and a monkey with bananas in the jungle.
- Activity: Play the Animal Matching Game, where kids match animals to their habitats or their favorite foods. Let them guess what different animals eat.
- Dinner: Continue preparing the Monkey Bananas and Zoo Vegetables. Encourage the kids to help peel bananas or arrange the veggie sticks into fun shapes that animals might enjoy.
Wednesday
Crafting & Songs
- Today is all about crafts and music! Let your kids create their own animal masks or animal-themed accessories. You can also sing some animal songs and incorporate animal sounds.
- Activity: Create animal masks using paper plates and art supplies or wear animal accessories like hats or tail attachments.
- Dinner: While your kids make their animal crafts, set up the Animal-Themed Dinner table. Prepare Fish Fingers and Monkey Bananas. Encourage your kids to sing along to "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" while getting the meal ready.
Thursday
Animal Role Play & Plate Decorating
- Tonight, let the kids get into character! Encourage them to pretend they are the animals they've learned about, making the appropriate animal noises and movements.
- Activity: Have the kids role-play their favorite animals during dinner — hop like kangaroos, slither like snakes, or roar like lions. Use ketchup and sauces to draw animal shapes or letters on their plates.
- Dinner: While the kids are role-playing, prep the Bear Paw Sandwiches and Fish Fingers. Let them "decorate" their plates with ketchup or sauces to form animal shapes or footprints.
Friday
Final Animal-Themed Dinner
- You've made it to the final day! Gather the whole family for the grand animal feast. Everyone can wear their animal-themed costumes or accessories and enjoy the fun dishes you've prepared together.
- Before you sit down, go over everything your kids have learned about animals throughout the week. Let them share their favorite animals, foods, and fun facts.
- Menu: Bear Paw Sandwiches, Fish Fingers, Monkey Bananas, Zoo Vegetables, and animal-shaped cookies or footprint gelatin cups. Use animal figurines as centerpieces and have kids wear their animal accessories.
